Getting Started
What should I know before starting therapy?
This FAQ page answers common questions about therapy with Talk Forward Counseling — from costs and insurance to how sessions work and what to expect emotionally. Whether you’re new to therapy or returning after time away, you’ll find clear, honest guidance here to help you feel more at ease before your first session.
What kinds of counseling do you offer?
We specialize in individual therapy for adults, with focus areas including:
Do you offer virtual therapy, or only in-person?
Both. You can book face-to-face sessions at our Marietta office or choose secure, HIPAA-compliant teletherapy — all across Georgia.
How do I schedule a consultation?
Just fill out our Request a Consultation form or call our office. We offer a free, no-pressure consultation so you can ask questions and decide if therapy feels right for you.
How quickly will someone respond after I reach out?
Usually within one business day. We try to make the first step as easy — and as stress-free — as possible.
What happens after that initial consultation?
If it feels like a good fit, we’ll help you book your first full session at a time that works for you
Who do you work with?
We primarily work with adults across Georgia who are navigating challenges such as stress, anxiety, depression, identity exploration, burnout, and life transitions. If you’re not sure whether it’s the right fit, we’re happy to talk it through in your consultation.
Do I need to be in crisis to go to therapy?
Not at all. Many clients come to therapy for support during transitions, to better understand themselves, or to prevent future overwhelm. Therapy is for anyone ready to grow or heal, not just during emergencies.
Fees, Insurance & Payment
How much does a session cost?
We primarily work with adults across Georgia who are navigating challenges such as stress, anxiety, depression, identity exploration, burnout, and life transitions. If you’re not sure whether it’s the right fit, we’re happy to talk it through in your consultation.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. We Accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield
Can I use HSA or FSA funds to pay?
Yes. We provide detailed receipts that you can submit for reimbursement. Or directly charge an HSA Card.
What to Expect in Your First Session
What happens in session #1?
We’ll start by talking about what brings you here, what’s been hard, what you hope to change, or what you’re trying to understand better. I’ll listen, gently ask questions, and together we’ll set the tone for what feels right for you.
How long is a session?
Standard sessions are 50 minutes.
Do I need to commit long-term from the start?
Not at all. Many people begin with just one or two sessions to see how it feels. From there, you decide what makes sense, no pressure. All one session commits you to is that session.
How often will we meet?
Most clients start with weekly or biweekly sessions, depending on their needs and goals. Over time, we’ll adjust the pace together based on what feels most supportive.
How long do people usually stay in therapy?
There’s no single answer. Some stay for a few months to work through a specific challenge, others continue longer for deep, ongoing growth. You’re always in control of the process.
Therapy Process & Outcomes
Is therapy evidence-based or supported by professional organizations?
Yes. Many approaches used at Talk Forward Counseling, including CBT and mindfulness-informed therapy, are backed by research and recommended by organizations like the American Psychological Association (APA). We aim to provide care that’s both compassionate and informed by the latest standards in mental health.
What is therapy, exactly?
We take a warm, nonjudgmental, and client-centered approach — integrating techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and solution-focused strategies. For those who desire it, we also offer faith-based counseling from a Christian perspective.
How long until I see results?
There’s no fixed timeline. Some clients notice shifts within a few sessions; others take more time. Often, people feel some sense of relief once they have scheduled their first session because they are moving forward. The thing to remember is therapy is personal; we’ll check in regularly and adjust as needed.
What if therapy doesn’t feel right?
That’s something we’ll talk through openly. Sometimes we need to shift our approach, revisit goals, or even consider a referral. The goal is always to support you and help you find the path that works best.
What if I feel emotional or overwhelmed after a session?
That’s a normal part of healing. Therapy can bring deep feelings to the surface. We’ll work through it together and build tools to care for yourself in between.
