Serving on the “Reflections & Roadmaps: A Conversation with LPCA Past Presidents” panel at the 37th Annual LPCA Convention was a meaningful and energizing experience. The session, hosted by Immediate Past President David Markwell, brought together a panel of leaders who’ve each helped shape the direction of our profession here in Georgia. I was honored to sit alongside fellow Past Presidents André Marria (2003–2004), Karen Wolfe (1997–1998), and Darrell Brooks (2017–2018).
Together, we shared stories about our time in office—what we faced, what we learned, and what we still carry with us. From early advocacy efforts to the evolving identity of LPCs in Georgia, our conversation touched on the victories and the challenges that have shaped both LPCA and the broader mental health landscape.
What stood out to me most was the engagement from those in the audience. Whether students, new professionals, or long-practicing clinicians, there was a shared energy and commitment to learning from the past to build a better future.
This wasn’t just a conversation about what has been—it was about where we’re going. And if the room was any indication, the next generation of LPCA leadership is already rising, ready to make their own mark.
I’m grateful to have been part of this conversation and proud to stand with those who have helped pave the way. The work continues—and it’s in good hands.
